Heather Bowen was born and raised in Colorado. After graduating from Hastings College in Nebraska with a major in elementary education, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Heather has a love for the hurting and the innocent, especially children. In 2005, she left her elementary school teaching job at a Christian school in Atlanta to help begin a shelter for at-risk women and their children in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru. For three years, Heather served as the live-in director in the shelter all the while gaining more insight into the Peruvian culture, as well as becoming privy to the unfortunate, daily abusive situations too many Peruvian women have to endure.
After resigning from her director's position at the shelter, Heather began her own ministry called Oaks of Righteousness. At this same time, she came under the covering of A Time to Build with a goal to minister to struggling women and children while reaching out to the local community. Heather is currently running her own restaurant as a means to reach out to the community and has plans to begin working in a local Christian school in March of 2012. Heather’s passion is to see people strengthen their relationship with Christ and gain a deeper understanding of His love for them.
