2011 PGA CHAMPIONSHIP FUNDRAISER
The week of August 8th, 2011 was an exciting time in the Atlanta area. The 2011 PGA Championship was held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John's Creek, GA from Monday, August 8th through Sunday, August 14th . Only ten days before the championship began, one of our board members, Chris Leavitt, found out that non-profit organizations could volunteer to run a concession stand, during the event, to raise funds for their cause. The organization had to run the stand from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Sunday, with a minimum of ten people working at all times. We decided to schedule volunteers during two 6-hour shifts, each day, which equated to a minimum of 140 volunteer slots that we had to fill. Let me tell you what the Lord did!
For the week, we had 93 volunteers who worked a total of 175 shifts. Twenty seven out of ninety-three volunteers worked more than one shift. Eight volunteers worked five or more shifts and two volunteers worked all seven days (Dan Bartholomew and Marty Atherton)! For the week, we sold approximately $75,000 in food and drinks. Our busiest sales day was Sunday with $19,500 in sales. After the dust settled, the ministry was blessed with a check for almost $4,800.00!
It was an amazing week filled with hard work, laughter and the joy of making new friends! Take a minute to look at the pictures and see how individuals can change lives for the Kingdom of God with a little hard work and a lot of dedication!
